Clearly I don’t expect anyone to believe that you can prepare for a garage sale in only 10 minutes time. That’s not the point.

Sometimes when we think about undertaking a major project we give up before we begin because the job is just too big and overwhelming. Today we are going to look at just one small portion of getting ready to host your own garage or yard sale.

Today’s featured item for gathering is books. Set your timer for 10 minutes and gather books fitting these categories:

  • Gather books you bought months ago, never read, and never will.
  • Gather children’s book which are way too young for any of your kids to look at again.
  • If you own multiple reference books, dictionaries, thesaurus consider letting some go.
  • If you own multiple bibles consider letting some of them go.
  • Gather book series you have completed and don’t intend to read again.
  • Gather gift type books that you don’t intend to re-gift yourself.
  • Gather craft books for crafts you’ve not done in years.
  • Gather partially used journals and remove the used pages.
  • Gather fiction books by authors on current best sellers lists.

All of these types of books have a chance to sell well at your garage sale. In future posts we’ll focus on gathering items from other areas of the house and of course, on getting the garage ready to host a sale.

This is obviously a fantastic exercise to undertake even if you are not planning a garage or yard sale, or live in an apartment or an area where garage sales are not a popular event. Donations of your unwanted books are always appreciated at your local libraries and thrift stores. If you are willing to put in just a little more time you could also give them away on a website like freecycle.org.
